Here’s the (not so) fictional script of the moment that prompted an “official” holoholo to Hideout at the Laylow.
FADE IN:
EXT. LAYLOW HOTEL- AFTERNOON
Perched above pedestrians and traffic, on a well traveled street in the heart of Waikiki, sits an inviting sun kissed lanai kept cool by a fragrant breeze offering lush mountain views – in short – a haven.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. HIDEOUT BAR – IN THE LOUNGE AREA – AFTERNOON
Two brunettes, of similar height, find seats on opposite couches. Chrissy (easily identified by her signature pigtails) and Laura, are reenergizing after a productive work day. On the go since sunrise, it’s their Pau Hana time. Menus in hand, they peruse.
LAURA
“Look at this – they have a new cocktail menu!”
CHRISSY
“Let me see…,oh yeah, these are fun!”
Chrissy and Laura turn simultaneously to the Hostess and ask her in sync.
CHRISSY AND LAURA
“When did you change the drinks?”
HOSTESS
“A few months back, the General Manager, invited his bartenders to revamp the artisanal cocktails for Hideout patrons. The bartenders had a blast showcasing their prowess and the friendly competition. The winning original cocktails made the menu.”
LAURA
“You know we gotta..,”
CHRISSY
“Yup – we have to try them.”
I confess, Chrissy and I are regulars at Hideout at the Laylow because it’s an easy place to relax and feel welcome. The Hideout maintains our attention by having all the essential elements possessed by the most successful bars: Atmosphere & Ambiance – modern, cozy, and smartly utilizing the unsurpassed outdoor charms of our island. Ohana & Aloha– an interesting intersection of tourists, local patrons and staff who regularly mingle. Passion & Excellence – a service and experience oriented crew working as a team, ono menu – the food is soooo delicious, and of course the thoughtful bar selections. In a nutshell, Hideout is doing most everything consistently well…, offering a fresh cocktail lineup included.
Justin, a seasoned pro with mad skills, was our bartender on the day we stopped by. Deciding which cocktails to have was simple. We picked based on color and ordered a total of four: the Juliet and Romeo (purple), The Ladies Man (pink), The Silly Willy (orange) and The Good Night Waikiki (black ) out of the available nine new artisanal cocktails. While preparing our drinks, Justin coached us on the hard shake vs. a dry shake and more. This casual education helped us to better appreciate the skill, thoughtfulness and art poured into constructing a memorable cocktail. Taking a few sips from each glass, we swiftly singled out our darlings. Round one – Chrissy was fond of the Juliet & Romeo while I swooned over the The Ladies Man. Round two – hands down the Silly Willy for Chrissy and the eponymous Good Night Waikiki (activated charcoal- how very sleek) for me.
As we indulged, we unearthed four additional reasons to holoholo to Hideout at the Laylow: Kamaaina’s can receive a Kamaaina discount by just asking, a happy hour menu (everyone loves those), an actual Hidden Cocktail List – how super fly, and live entertainment every single evening. On that note – their entertainment calendar lists Simple Souls as the musicians performing on November 29th – here’s a shout out from aloha holoholo to one of our favorite duos!
